Permanently open trousers (2025)
In her performance Permanently open trousers, Inga Krüger dedicates herself to the shortest river in Germany. Like the river, her narrative style meanders, creating a special connection with the audience. The audience is not only carried along by her flow of words, but is also actively taken on a mental journey, as conscious inconsistencies and word plays create a sense of anticipation for the next twist in the performance.
The artist speaks amplified, but above all she amplifies what speaks at a place. For this, she positions herself in front of the city library, right next to the babbling Pader, with a view of the Kaiserpfalz and the cathedral. Equipped with a microphone, Inga Krüger takes in the place in a unique, wordy way and questions the relationship between humans and the river. With empathy for the short river, she delves into its history, location and use with a good mix of knowledge and beneficial ignorance.
Inga Krüger sees language as a vehicle for thinking and understanding the world around us and interprets the performative act of speech as a form of urban occupation. Permanently open trousers is a performative intervention on the Pader that encourages a brief and refreshing look at
the flowing water.
