CHAIRS to SHARE

permanently accessible
he installation CHAIRS to SHARE consists of ten chair objects in pink, turquoise, orange, yellow and ruby red. The coloured surfaces are offset in relation to the chair frame. The individual elements thus seem to form an abstract shape rather than serving as a place to sit. Only when two coloured parts are joined together does a complete seat shell emerge and the sculpture becomes a functional piece of furniture. One chair element remains deliberately standing alone and emphasises the sculptural character of the work. The installation moves between form and function, between contemplation and (everyday) use.
In this way, the artist succeeds in intertwining art and everyday life together. People who use the chairs become part of the artwork themselves. They sit down, get up again, and move on – others take their place. This creates a kind of dance of proximity and distance, of coming and going in public space. Those who sit down literally take possession of the chair and become part of an artistic experiment about living together, participation, and the value of being together.
CHAIRS to SHARE invites you to think about community. How close do I want to sit next to others, when do I prefer to stand up again? Who do I want to sit next to? This also raises the big question: how do we want to live together as a society?
Artist-Info
Dorothee Golz combines the mundane with the art historical in her art. She works with sculpture, photography, drawing and painting. Often she asks questions such as: How do we want to live? How do we see ourselves and others? In doing so, the artist deals with the themes of identity, role models and society.
